Bunnahabhain Moine PX Finish 2004

Despite some recent disappointments with Bunnahabhain expressions and a lackluster distillery tasting experience where samples were provided without guidance, this 2004 Moine Px caught my attention. Bottled at 52.8%, the expectation was peated sherry. The nose was extraordinary, featuring dehydrated pineapple, peat, and earthy notes. Aromatic, chocolatey peat was layered with heather and grassiness, complemented by fruit syrup and sherry sweetness. The chocolate aroma intensified after five minutes, revealing beautiful coffee, toffee, and cacao notes, creating a creamy sensation. The palate was flawless, presenting chocolate, caramel, and subtle sugar. Pineapple notes mingled with metallic and sulfuric hints, followed by a delicious, milky, chocolaty, and creamy character. The second sip introduced saltiness, cake fondant, and more chocolate. The finish maintained the excellence with ginger, prunes, orchard fruit, and gooseberries, culminating in gunpowder-like peat. In summary, this is the ultimate Bunnahabhain, an absolutely amazing dram that revived positive memories of whiskies from this location. Its blend of peat, sweetness, sherry, chocolate, and more is incredible. I rate it 100/100.

More barbeque smoke, significantly less intense than the Bordeaux. The flavor is comparable, possibly a touch sweeter than its counterpart but with a similar profile. Fire, spice, wood, plum. Rich, it spreads broadly across the finish. Luxurious and delightful.
