Bunnahabhain 1997 Palo Cortado Cask Finis

Nose - Strong sweet spicy, lightly herbal caramel/toffee, syrupy raisins, dried persimmons, candied cranberries, saline, candy shell Taste - Sweet fruity heat, dried persimmons, sweet dark raisins, light sea salt, hint of aged tea, sweet mesquite bbq sauce Finish - Lingering sweet bbq sauce, tangy sweet, apple/cherry sweet, applewood/cherrywood smoke Score - 86/100 Final Thoughts - This definitely has a very unique nose and is unlike any other sherry finished expressions I've sampled previously. It's not your typical stone fruit sweetness, but rather a lightly medicinal/metallic smoky/tangy sweetness. It's very distinctive and surprisingly well-balanced. The presence of dried persimmon notes (which I don't particularly favor) slightly detracts from it for me.
