Bunnahabhain 1968 41 Year (Adelphi)

The third spirit from a tasting event, I believe this was the oldest single malt I have ever sampled. This blend of two barrels (told to be first-fill sherry) risked being below the legal whisky alcohol percentage after 41 years aging. It has a dark rosewood hue. The aroma is subtle honey, aged paper, and dried mushrooms. The taste includes cola, coffee beans, and cocoa powder. The conclusion is prolonged, initially subtly sweet then becoming dry. While perfectly harmonious and unaffected by its many years in the cask, the low alcohol content makes it seem somewhat diluted. Nonetheless, a fantastic aged spirit that I would gladly consume at any time. It was last observed at auction in January with a winning bid of 750 pounds. You could spend your money on much worse things.
