Sweet notes of toffee, treacle, and nuts are present, along with hints of pear and dried apricot. It has more body and flavor than the 17-year-old expression, with less noticeable alcohol. While I prefer more smoke and a bit more complexity, this is a very enjoyable spirit.
Initially, the smell has some alcohol sharpness, but it mellows into a gentler citrus scent. The mouthfeel is acceptably full, with oak notes beneath the malt.
