About this bottle

Brugal's most esteemed rum, Siglo de Oro, is produced annually. It was initially created in 1988 to mark Brugal’s 100th anniversary. After aging for up to 8 years in medium-toasted American oak barrels, it is transferred to new oak barrels for an additional 8-year maturation period.

Wonderful. Very smooth with hints of wood, caramel, and a spicy conclusion. A rum for whisky fans. This rum requires time for the flavors to emerge. I learned this when I brought this home from duty free. When I opened a bottle at home, the smell and taste weren't the same as when I sampled it in the Dominican Republic, but the flavors opened up more as I drank it.

Excellent. Not readily available in the US without a significant price increase. Essentially, it's a more refined, richer version of Brugal's 1888. For those familiar with Brugal, it's like an improved rendition of past 1888 bottlings.

Having this at Belmont Sanctuary Lodge, 100 feet from Machu Picchu. It's the greatest sipping rum I've had yet, and I intend to purchase a bottle from the duty-free shop. The double oak process results in a very mellow and full-bodied drink.

Catrina Steed 5.0

Housed in an old-style blue ceramic bottle. Very reminiscent of bourbon, with notes of raisins, caramel, treacle, vanilla, cherries, cinnamon, nutmeg, peppers, tobacco, and dark chocolate.

Really good rum. Smell: vanilla, fruits from the tropics. Flavor: butterscotch, oak. It's good, don't get me wrong, but the cost is too much.

Royce Camarena 4.0

It reminds me of whisky, but it's thicker and a bit sweet. The alcohol is strong. It gets the job done.
