Brora 30 Year (2010 Special Release)

It's uncommon to sample a 30-year-old from a distillery that is no longer operational. Therefore, any evaluations will inevitably be influenced by the emotional significance of experiencing a piece of history. However, regardless of sentimentality...this was simply outstanding. The nose has a rustic quality...reminiscent of visiting a farm in Pennsylvania during harvest. The scent of horse tack and hay. The taste lives up to the aromatic impression. Briny, robust, and more pronounced smoke. The Pennsylvania farm scene transforms into a seaside stall vending smoked herring. With a splash of water, fruit becomes prominent alongside the smoke---some lemon and apple notes. I thoroughly enjoyed this. It is far from an everyday beverage. But for a dedicated whiskey enthusiast, this should be on your must-try list.

The aroma is subtle, with light smoke and hints of caramel. There's a touch of salt on the nose. The palate is rich, featuring a complex mix of peat, wildflowers, caramel, and a hint of citrus. The aftertaste is long, with floral notes and smoke. Adding a few drops of water enhances the floral notes on the nose and rounds out the palate. It's very smooth and highly enjoyable. It's a shame more isn't produced...

I have consumed various bottles of Brora from many different years. Always excellent. The taste sends an electric jolt through me. By far my preferred whiskey ever.

Consumed neat, following a spicy meal with a Trinidadian cigar. A burst of flavor with a satisfying finish.

Experienced this from an old malt bottling. Incredible.
