Bowmore The Devil's Cask III "Double the Devil"

I always give genuine reviews. Anyone familiar with me knows I'm not a fan of Bowmore. I find their expressions lack peat and are often dull. This, however, is a remarkable whisky. A robust dram, the best Bowmore has presented to me before. Let's begin with its fascinating narrative, this "The Devil's Cask III, Doble the devil" has an incredible story, I'll just share it: The town of Bowmore built its church without corners so the Devil couldn't hide. One evening, the townsfolk drove the devil out of the church, and he fled into the Bowmore Distillery, concealing himself within casks destined for the mainland. These casks then became known as 'The Devil's Casks.' INCREDIBLE TALE. This is the third release in the "Devil's Casks" series; the first was aged in oloroso sherry butts, and the second in Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks. This one features BOTH. Now we're talking. Bottled at 56.7% ABV, with THE MOST GORGEOUS BURNT UMBER / CHESTNUT REDDISH HUE. Visually appealing enough to make one's mouth water. On the nose, it's sublime. A sherry bomb, the peatiest Bowmore ever, cherry, strawberry marmalade, figs, salt, Worcestershire sauce, dark chocolate, oranges. So many distinct aromas. On the palate, it's perfect. Oranges followed by a very pleasant spice explosion, infused with a heavy sherry influence. Glazed pork, oak. The finish is extremely long, with an ashy burn, ginger, and salt. After the first taste, your mouth will feel numb... permanently. In summary, this is an experience. This is how whisky ought to be, with a multitude of elements, a full mouthfeel, incredible. One of my (new) favorite whiskies ever, rated 100 out of 100. Cheers!

Wow, this is an excellent pour. It improved steadily. Starting at 4, hitting 4.25, and nearing 4.5. I believe with additional time, it might have advanced from 4.25 to 4.5, reaching a solid 4.5. Notes of salt, barbecue, figs, and citrus fruits, with a smoky finish that provides a pleasant warmth long after drinking. I would enjoy finishing a bottle, as I suspect it could become a hidden gem like Bunnahabhain 18, which consistently improves over time. However, after it has been open a while, I begin to detect that distinctive Bowmore cat pee note, which becomes more pronounced. Nevertheless, I must judge it based on my current experience, and at over $250 USD, I feel a 4.25 is reasonable. For that cost, I could acquire almost three bottles of Bowmore 18.

Nose: Raisins, Oranges, Chocolate, Cherries, Dates, Toffee, Lavender, Peaches, Sea Salt, Iodine, Smoke, Almonds, Walnuts, Hazelnuts, Papayas, Mangoes, Pineapples, Bananas, Sultanas, Vanilla, Herbs Palate: Chocolate, Toffee, Salted Honey, Raisins, Raspberries, Strawberries, Cherries, Prunes, Hazelnuts, Peach Syrup, Smoke, Bacon, Oranges, Vanilla, Maple Syrup Finish: Smoke, Tar, Iodine, Bacon, Beef, Dark Chocolate, Raisins, Toffee, Blackberries, Raspberries, Currants, Sea Salt, Oranges, Vanilla, Raspberries I found this sweeter than the second 10 year Devil's Cask. I probably preferred the second 10 year slightly more.

The aroma is of wet leaves, Red Hots, sugar-cured bacon, honey-glazed ham, baked salmon, and red licorice. On the palate, the sherry and peat become more noticeable, with cracked pepper, black cherries, rubber, blood oranges, Band-Aids, and faint coffee giving way to a finish of mild campfire smoke, lingering unsweetened cocoa, and more of that savory roasted flavor. The finish is medium long, and the dram coats the mouth well. After a minute of pondering the roof of my mouth with my tongue, the coffee and chocolate have the final say. A truly unique whisky, largely due to its very unusual nose.

In the glass, it's dark, thick, and imposing. Aromas of earth and raisins. It bursts in the mouth with a surge of wicked smoke and divine minced fruit. The glowing embers linger sweetly as you anticipate your next drink. A touch of water brings out fig and black grape aromas, softens the brimstone, and reveals some drying tannins on the finish. Wickedly delicious.
