About this bottle

The 23-year-old No Corners to Hide, part of a travel exclusive series, originates from a local legend about a church erected in 1767 on Islay with no corners to keep out the devil. Despite the architectural precautions, the devil allegedly appeared and was pursued into the Bowmore distillery, seeking refuge in a whisky barrel. This expression was matured in American oak hogsheads that previously held bourbon, then spent two years in Essencia barriques. It has an ABV of 51.5% and was exclusively offered in travel retail starting October 2021, with 6,666 bottles produced.

(Imagine a spooky movie narrator's voice before reading) It's a well-known tale that the devil occasionally shows up on the Isle of Islay. However, the islanders have never feared him. They always pursue him to vanquish him, but the devil habitually enters Bowmore's church, concealing himself in a corner. Weary of this, the locals decided to demolish the church and replace it with a circular one, where the devil HAD NO CORNERS TO HIDE. So, the day arrived when the devil was pursued again... he entered the round church and found nowhere to escape his doom. A window was left open, and he hurled himself through it. He fled to the Bowmore distillery, and upon reaching the warehouse, he fragmented into tiny devils, subsequently hiding for ages in what is now known as THE DEVIL'S CASK. This supposedly true story is the theme for Bowmore's latest success, a revamped release of the once-celebrated "Bowmore's Devil's Cask". "NO CORNERS TO HIDE" features an attractive box and label designed by artist Frank Quietly, a comic artist known for his work on titles like Batman and X-Men. Bottled at 51.5% ABV, this is a 23-year-old expression of Bowmore, initially aged in ex-bourbon American oak hogsheads, followed by two years in "Essencia barriques". These casks are crafted by Tonnellerie Demptos, a French cooperage. On the nose, it's Perfection. BBQ sauce, bacon, honey; intense earthy peat. Cherry syrup appeared unexpectedly. Old oranges. After the initial taste, the aroma shifted, bacon intensified; it revealed toffee blended with rich sweet sherry and peat. Orange candy. Plastic and glazed pork. On the palate, you'll never find anything superior. Old oranges, hay peat, and sulfur. Sherried: Red fruitiness, sherry spices, sherry sweetness; sherry perfection. Aftertaste is extraordinary. Smoky. Sherried, lovely red fruity finish. AMAZING SYRUPY FINISH MIXED WITH PEAT, simply WOW!; Smoky maraschino cherries. Overall, I consider this one of my favorite whiskies ever. It is simply flawless in every aspect: sweet, peaty, syrupy, powerful, flavorful, etc.; If I may offer some advice, never drink this, for two reasons: 1.- more for me; and, 2.- it might ruin all other whiskies for you. My rating for it is 1000 out of 100. Yes, you read that correctly, a thousand points. Now, let's listen to ACDC's Highway to Hell. Cheers!
