The myth involves a Celtic warrior wounded in battle against the Picts, who fell for the Pictish Princess tending to his wounds. Their love was forbidden, and escape seemed impossible due to rough seas and the warrior's injury. Their vessel wrecked, and they shared a final embrace as they sank. According to legend, they became gulls, still seen flying near the distillery today. A captivating narrative, now let's discuss the whisky. Distilled at 50.9% ABV, it first aged in ex-bourbon barrels before undergoing a transformation with a finishing period in oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks. The aroma leads with notes of flowers, grapes, and heather. Expect the signature aromatic peat and damp earth scent typical of Bowmore. The taste is delightfully floral and sweet, featuring sugary figs and plum syrup. Quite floral indeed. The finish is grassy, reminiscent of damp, rain-soaked fields. It evokes a mountainside feel.
