This 1989 vintage expression was matured exclusively in port casks and bottled in 2013. Bowmore distillery, a significant entity in Islay's whisky heritage, is one of the few distilleries in Scotland that still practices floor malting. It is located in the island's central village, perched on a hill overlooking the water. This whisky embodies the quintessential characteristics of Islay.

Excellent flavor profile featuring berries, oranges, tropical fruits, and a hint of smoke. Nose: Blackberries, Prunes, Violets, Milk Chocolate, Strawberries, Raisins, Plums, Oranges, Grapefruits, Passion Fruit, Kiwis, Raspberries, Toffee Palate: Smoke, Oranges, Salted Caramel, Vanilla, Blackberries, Blood Oranges, Walnuts, Figs, Plums Finish: Raspberries, Almonds, Oranges, Vanilla, Toffee
Nose: Strong cherry and raisin, oak and smoke, leather, and kelp. Palate: Sweet cherry, raisin and pecans, vanilla and oak and peat. Finish: Medium but sweet and smooth, cherry and leather, peat. Adding water enhances the berry and revives the peat smoke.
I enjoyed it, with a slight sweetness. Perhaps a caramel finish. No vanilla notes detected. Sampled from a dram.
The aroma was amazing, packed with blueberries. I think it has a little too much oak.
