I was fortunate to attend this year's Feis Ile and experienced a remarkable benefit at Bowmore on their festival day: an "Old & Rare" bar offered pours of extremely scarce Bowmores from prior years at a minimal cost. Among them was a truly astonishing and delicious 16-year-old Wine Cask from 1992, bottled in 2008. It had been aged in Bourbon & Limousin Bordeaux Wine Casks, with a 53.5% ABV. WOW, THE AROMA IS INCREDIBLE! RICH RED WINE. (I'm shouting!). Chocolate, intense red wine, lemon, and coffee. On the palate, I detect wonderful red fruits; truly enjoyable. Chocolate, red wine. It's so rich in chocolate that, as a larger individual, I endorse this whisky. The finish provided delightful prunes, red wine, and tart fruits. Everything was intensely tart. Like a Bloody Mary. In summary, this was absolutely exceptional. I had about four servings; I even skipped trying other fantastic releases because this was too good, compelling me to have more. Pure flawlessness, ranking among the best Bowmores I've ever sampled. 100 out of 100. A top-tier selection.
