Borough Bourbon

I am fond of the people at this distillery, and I find this bourbon to be very clever and enjoyable. It's a straight bourbon, so naturally, it spends the required two years in new oak barrels, but then it's aged in used rum casks, which is truly its distinguishing feature. Smooth rum and caramel with a corn-based finish.

A grainy and slightly sweet aroma. Quite warm, with a touch of vanilla and a slightly floral character. It creates a pleasant warmth in the mouth that only slightly fades as it goes down. Overall, a pleasing, intricate flavor. The lingering taste is warm and somewhat bitter.

Batch No.3: Features a floral and almost sherry-like aroma. Smooth tastes of dark cherry and butterscotch, with a rich flavor and a medium finish. A gift, but I will purchase it myself next time I see it. I hope future batches maintain this consistency. Well executed.

It has the appearance and aroma of a young whiskey but tastes far more developed. Very smooth, with tastes that fade gradually. A truly impressive bourbon from Washington D.C.! I'm currently enjoying batch 3 and I'm a fan. I'm eager to sample more as their inventory matures.

The version I sampled was finished in spiced rum barrels, so I'm uncertain if my review pertains to the exact same product. It offered sweetness and warmth, followed by molasses.

Smells of wheat and sweetness. Complex and interesting flavors of vanilla, hints of herbs, and a slightly spicy finish.
