Borough Bourbon Batch No. 3

I acquired a bottle some time ago, quite frankly, because I was curious about the taste of the Armagnac-finished Joseph Magnus, but wasn't willing to search for it or pay over $300. Instead, I found this, and was further impressed that it was initiated by an all-female team with an all-female workforce. That's rare in an industry as male-dominated as this. Honestly... I was more than happy to support the venture, regardless of the bourbon's quality (now, for context... bourbon ranks last for me, behind single malt, rye, amaro, all other whiskies, red wine... and finally, bourbon). This is a high-rye sourced bourbon from KY, finished in Armagnac in Washington D.C. The aroma is its strongest point, unfortunately. Apricot, honey, some oak. It's very heavy on apricot. The palate doesn't hold up... it's mild and light. I had hoped for more Armagnac influence, but it's really light. It's the complete opposite of something like Booker's. If you prefer your spirits mild and light, with an amazing aroma, this is perfect for you.

This bourbon originates from a distillery in Washington, DC. It is their main offering, made from a grain bill of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley. The straight bourbon whiskey is aged six years: five in American oak then completed one more year in Armagnac barrels. Smell: Warm apricots or peaches, toffee Palate: Baking spices followed with a creamy sweetness Finish: Short to medium, body is a bit thin Overall a serviceable high rye sipper but nothing to write home about in terms of complexity.

Less robust than other high rye bourbons, its aroma is sweet and fruity, leading to an easy, brief finish. It tastes of sweet plum alongside typical bourbon notes.

Toffee and oak. Some pleasant notes, but it's a bit rough. It could benefit from a bit more time in the barrel to mature.
