About this bottle

Blade and Bow Bourbon draws its name from the two components of a skeleton key: the blade shaft and the ornamental bow. This naming is a tribute to the five keys displayed at the Stitzel-Weller Distillery (operational from 1935 to 1992), with each key symbolizing a stage in bourbon creation: grains, yeast, fermentation, distillation, and aging. This 22-year-old bourbon contains some of the final spirits produced at the Stitzel-Weller Distillery before its closure in 1992.

It grew on me, but I was somewhat let down. I don't think I generally like bourbons that have aged this long in oak. I've had a similar reaction to many of the Orphan Barrel releases. The finish is also surprisingly brief. It's good, but I want to compare it to the younger version to see which I prefer. My guess is the younger one.

Nellie Cao 3.0

Great aroma, very sweet, with brown sugar, caramel. Smells almost like creme brulee. I could enjoy this scent for a long time. Palate differs from the nose: some floral hints, some baking spice, pepper, leather. Medium finish. 11/27/17

Walter Webber 4.0

Very smooth and easy to drink, providing a lasting warmth. It's not particularly bold or flavorful, and I anticipated more taste for the cost, but it's still quite good.

Delilah Ferrer 3.0

An odd plastic aroma and finish, with green spruce tip notes in the flavor. It's easy to drink but uninspired. Overall, just okay.

Madelynn Pratt 5.0

I have not sampled the 2018 new releases. However, I enjoyed the 2017 release immensely....

Brennan Grantham 3.5

It's too potent for my liking; I'd prefer the standard blade and bow.
