Benromach Contrasts: Cara Gold Malt 11 Year Old

From a virtual tasting on February 25, 2022. The nose offered mild peat, hints of BBQ and campfire, salt, and pickle, with faint fresh fruit and citrus zest. The palate revealed oak, vanilla, honey, maple syrup, toffee, caramel, and butterscotch, with further smoke suggestions. The finish was medium-long, characterized by toffee and butterscotch, with very subtle smoky notes and a rather sweet aftertaste complemented by malt. This is a delightful, caramel-rich, sweet dram; imagine a smoked Werther's Original! It's brimming with butterscotch, smoke, butter, toffee, and caramel. All incredibly warming, toffied, and palatable. A wonderful dram. It tied for third place out of the six pours, garnering 17% of the vote for favorite of the night, with 83% of those present indicating enjoyment.

Tasted at a Benromach event. Starts with sweet fruit and caramel flavors, quickly followed by mild to medium smoke. The medium finish transitions into nuts and sweet fruit as the smoke fades. A pleasant sweet and smoky drink.

Sweet honeycomb, butterscotch, digestive biscuits, hay, forest trees and berries, lemongrass, fennel, with a lingering smokiness and ash at the end, reminiscent of a campfire. It's rich and sweet, offering great value for the price.

The aroma is of pear drops evolving into light, exotic fruits. The palate is sweet, transitioning to the characteristic peat of Benromach. The finish is smoky and of moderate duration. It offers a lighter alternative to the standard Benromach 10.
