On my third whisky journey to Scotland, I began my single malt exploration as soon as I boarded the plane. The flight attendant offered me a Benriach Quarter Cask, double matured, bottled at 46% ABV, which I had never tried before. On the nose, it opens with notes of apples, honey, pear, and cough syrup. The aromas are clean and well-presented. On the palate, this one is quite honeyed. After a sip, I detected notes of tobacco leaf, ashes, and a bitter, burnt grass. The aftertaste was very pleasant. A beautiful sulfuric finish with burnt grass, tobacco, and hay. Overall, I think this is an affordable single malt, and it is genuinely good. A highly enjoyable dram with a respectable ABV. A genuine Speyside, I rate it 85 out of 100.
