Bennett Mill Bourbon

Taste - 1.5 oz Neat in Glen Cairn glass Nose: (2.75) Very sweet, like candy corn. I also detect buttered corn and Cracker Jack. It's inviting but perhaps a bit overpowering. There's also a slightly unpleasant solvent note. Palate: (3.0) Reminds me of corn pudding with some brown sugar. Towards the back of the palate, it's creamy with a thicker texture. It feels a bit oily but coats the mouth well. Finish: (3.25) A pleasant cola finish with a touch of spice at the end. I wish the spice had appeared earlier to balance the sweetness. Overall: My feelings are mixed. On the positive side, it's reminiscent of Rowan's Creek, which I enjoy. I commend the producers for using their own distillate and aging process, as well as local Illinois grains, and for forging their own path. They could have easily bottled MGP product, created a catchy story, and marketed it like many new companies do. On the negative side, it's young and excessively sweet. It needs more spice for balance. It comes across as a little too 'mashy' to me. I hope these producers continue to hone their skills, and I plan to visit their facility as Geneva is nearby.

Fantastic aroma of caramel and oak. I'm guessing a high corn content in the mash bill. The palate is sweet with abundant caramel undertones. The finish has a very mild burn followed by more caramel and oak. Exceptionally well-executed.

A well-made Bourbon. Excellent finish with a touch of spice. Perfect as is or with a little water to enhance it.

Although young, it possesses a truly distinct flavor profile.. heavily dominated by rye, yet it works and is smoother than one might anticipate

Sweet, spicy, developing into a peppery finish. A pleasant mouthfeel.
