Staci Higgins 3.8

46%, Non chill filtered and naturally colored. Smells like lemon zest, fresh pears, oak, and white wine. Tastes of fresh pears, cream, honey, and barley sugar, transitioning to a bready, digestive cookie character. Finish is medium to long with notes of oak and spice. Ben Nevis is a favorite distillery for good reason, and this expression does not disappoint. The signature oily, creamy, and waxy texture of Ben Nevis is present, though less pronounced than in the 10 year old. The white wine aroma is quite fitting, as the whisky's natural color is similar. I really enjoyed the delicate creamy pear flavors, combined with the youthful zip of this accessible and easy-drinking spirit. The barley sugar sweetness evoked memories of eating raw sugar directly from the production line with my grandfather and father. If this were more widely available in North America, I'd make it my go-to spring and summer drink without hesitation.

Rocio Ware 3.0

Aroma: Oatmeal porridge, yeasty dough, barley wort, curry herbs and spices (fenugreek, fennel, coriander). A touch of vanilla from the cask. It presents a rather bright profile and has a very youthful aroma overall. Palate: A malty, herbal entry with dried fruits and mustard seed. Adding water makes it sweeter and softens the palate. Finish: Medium length. Toffee, malt, ale. A respectable No Age Statement from Ben Nevis, but it lacks the sophistication of the 10 year old and Traditional core-range siblings. It's an acceptable choice at a reasonable price, but I would personally choose the 10 Year Old every time. "Above Average (just)": 80/100 (3 stars)
