Even though it rests in ex-bourbon casks, the aroma suggests sherry cask aging. It requires several sniffs and some effort to detect the hint of bourbon. Sipping should be done in very small amounts, otherwise, the unpleasant alcohol burn ruins the experience. The flavors are indeed bourbon, but also a sherry sweetness, with floral notes and red fruits in the retro-hale. The higher proof contributes spiciness. However, I believe those with more discerning palates will appreciate this rum. It works well for adding a tasty extra kick when mixed. This rating is based on sipping it neat. I'm not fond of high-proof spirits; the flavors, aromas, and overall experience are diminished. This is why I've given this a low rating.
