Nose - (without water) Rich dark vanilla caramels, roasted nuts, dark roast coffee beans, oiled leather (with water) Vanilla caramels, dark toffee, roasted nuts with skins Taste - (without water) Rich dark, oaky vanilla caramels, hint of peanut skin bitterness, cinnamon spice, roasted nuts (with water) Oaky vanilla caramels, light bitter nut skins are more prominent, dark brown sugar simple syrup Finish - (without water) Lingering oaky brown sugar simple syrup, oiled leather, hint of burnt nut skin bitterness (with water) Lingering sweet toasted nuts, faint tingle, oaky brown sugar simple syrup Score - 84/100 Final Thoughts - This started with a fantastic nose, but once it hit the palate, it tasted a bit over-oaked and slightly tannic. It begins quite well, but then a sudden nut skin bitterness takes over and becomes somewhat distracting. The delicious dark vanilla caramels are overwhelmed. This one is better without added water, as I believe the water amplifies the bitterness, and surprisingly, despite the higher proof, it doesn't drink like it. Would I drink it if offered? - Yes Would I specifically order it? - No Would I buy a bottle? - Not another one
