The aroma is promising, evoking a sense of familiarity, though I can't pinpoint what it reminds me of. It definitely triggers memories. On the nose, there are hints of nuts, fruit, and dough, reminiscent of a boozy peanut butter and jelly sandwich. An earthy, truffle-like note is also present. The palate begins with a sharp spice, followed by the carried-over aromas – honey-roasted peanuts, tart fruit, and mushrooms. This must be from Dickel. A pleasant, gradual warmth descends. Cacao nibs remain, and the sensation persists for a while. It feels substantial and slick, quite thick, akin to swallowing peanut butter. While not an effortless sipper, it's considerably smoother than one might expect given its proof. Another excellent offering from the Barrell line. 8/6/18

Rosetta Ma 4.5

Aroma of charred oak, cedar box, sea salt. Taste includes burnt sugars, dark chocolate, cinnamon butter. My preferred Barrell bourbon batch out of approximately 8 previously tried. The finish is long and continues to reveal more flavors of vanilla and baking spices. It's unfortunate this batch has been unavailable for a while, or I'd be heading to the store for a backup bottle.

124.7 proof 8 years and 3 months aged 70% corn, 26% rye, 4% malted barley (from website) Smell: dark cherry, dark chocolate Taste: red cinnamon, cherry cordial Feel: sweet on the tip of the tongue, sharp spice at the back Finish: medium-long, low heat in the throat 3.0/5.0 “A rather intense cinnamon flavor that is sweet, reminiscent of Big Red gum”

Purchased in Spring Hill, TN for $85. The price is a bit steep, but this is an outstanding Bourbon. It bears resemblance to BTAC Stagg, and it's readily available on the shelf. I'll reserve a bottle for special occasions on my top shelf.

Joy Whitmore 4.0

Possesses a substantial mouthfeel, typical of the brand, complemented by robust and appealing toasted oak and tree nut notes. A slight touch of pumpkin spice and cinnamon provides just enough sweetness to balance the strong oak foundation.

Merrill Mckay 2.0

The aroma suggests a standard, appealing caramel-vanilla bourbon, but the finish tastes like damp, soiled paper. The high proof attempts to mask this, but it's unconvincing.
