The aroma is light with a young dryness that begins with a gentle spice, fading into Granny Smith apple and mandarin orange notes. This then shifts to the scent of just-baked pie crust, delicate floral hints, followed by barrel spices and mild oak, accompanied by a moderate ethanol burn. The taste presents a thin to medium body, starting with a mild spice that gives way to Granny Smith apple and mandarin orange peel. This is followed by a medium drying spice, transitioning into unfrosted sugar cookies, ginger, cloves, spearmint, and mild ashy oak, with a moderate ethanol burn. The finish is medium in duration, featuring sautéed apples, orange zest, ginger, cloves, spearmint, and mild ashy oak. A very pleasing drink that is hampered by some youthful dryness and a thinner mouthfeel than I would prefer, which makes those classic bourbon flavors subdued and mild on the palate, with a drying spice and some ashy oak. Considering the $60 price, it's a decent buy, but I'd rather invest in a Russel's Reserve Single Barrel, Four Roses Single Barrel, or OF 1920. Many thanks to a friend for the generous sample.

Aroma: Charred oak, leather, a hint of citrus(?) Flavor: Light mouthfeel, provides a warm sensation with the first sip, spicy, slightly sweet, the citrus from the aroma returns after a few sips. Ah... I realize what I'm tasting: Fruity! Like "fruit punch." Intriguing. I've seen this described in reviews for other bottles, but I don't believe I've ever detected it myself. I am reaching a point where the desire to try absolutely everything is becoming less important. I know my preferences, and while this is a "good" drink, I won't be seeking out a bottle. As for the brand, I am a fan. However, I will stick to their Origins Series.
Compared to another release, this has a similar medium amber color but a more pleasing salted caramel aroma. The scent is alluring with notes of cigar box, worn leather, split vanilla bean, and brandied cherries. The palate is rich and lively, featuring ripe, oily citrus, pie spice, and a hint of lavender. The oak is well-integrated, providing only a slight astringency on an otherwise smooth and enduring finish with hints of dark caramel sauce, cocktail cherry, and fudgy brownies.
Subtle oak, ginger snap, vanilla, baking spices, and citrus. Some rawness and astringency detract from what is otherwise a good, intriguing whiskey. Re-tasting 1-29-22 The astringency has vanished, and it now presents as more mature and quite delightful. The aroma and flavor profile are largely the same, with the addition of crème brûlée notes. Increased rating by 1/2 point.
Nose: Abundant vanilla, cream, caramel, a touch of butterscotch, and a bit of dried plum. Palate: Butterscotch hits immediately, then shifts quickly to baking spices and pepper. Finish: A rather quick finish with vanilla, fruit (possibly grapes), and some pepper spice.
The initial impression is a soft aroma with low alcohol smell, which is pleasant. When sipped neat, there's a light spice upfront that fades too quickly. Overall, it's an adequate pour, but you can find equally good or better options at lower price points.
