About this bottle
The Balvenie's The Second Red Rose is the fifth offering in its Stories collection. This expression honors the 2008 distillery-exclusive Balvenie Rose 16 Year Old, which underwent a final maturation in port pipes. The 'Rose' moniker in both bottlings refers to the historical rent paid by Margaret Douglas, known as The Fair Maid of Galloway. In the 15th century, she resided at Balvenie Castle and was required to pay annual rent of one red rose to King James II after he took ownership of the estate. This whisky, aged for 21 years, was initially matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels before being finished in Australian shiraz wine casks. It was bottled at 48.1% ABV and first became available in the UK in September 2021, followed by a US release in November 2022, with a suggested retail price of $459.99.

Notes of red berries and a strong fruit presence. The finish lingers, lasting a moderate to extended amount of time. This is quite enjoyable.
Rich jam sweetness with a floral finish
