Balvenie 25 Year Rare Marriages

This spent 25 years maturing in European and American oak casks before being combined and bottled at 48% ABV. The nose begins with a rich, floral honey sweetness, complemented by light lemon and lime zest in the background, along with faint dusty leather-bound books, then vanilla crème brûlée and cocoa-dusted prunes, followed by poached pears, orange blossom, and grapefruit zest. It transitions to ginger, cloves, and a mildly bitter tea with minimal ethanol burn. The taste presents a medium mouthfeel, starting floral with a rich honey sweetness and lemon and lime candy, shifting into a moderately bitter and spicy profile that slowly fades to vanilla gelato and cocoa-dusted prunes. This is followed by anise-spiced baked pears, candied orange peel, and grapefruit zest, then transitioning to ginger, cloves, and a mild bitter black tea, all with low ethanol burn. The finish is medium in length, featuring lemon-lime candy, powdered ginger, a mild black pepper spice, and dusty leather-bound books. Overall, this is a delicious whisky with rich floral honey, light citrus, cocoa-dusted prunes, and mild spices, incorporating some subtle old oak notes of dusty leather-bound books. However, the balance is slightly off, as the palate veers towards a moderate peppery spice that overwhelms the honeyed sweetness before finally fading to allow sweet fruits with a mild sourness and a hint of over-oaked bitterness to emerge. The finish is mildly spicy with citrus and old leather. At approximately $600+, this is an easy pass for me, as many other options at much lower prices are better suited to my preferences. However, if you enjoy the traditional Balvenie profile, this would likely be a real treat, though I recommend trying a sample before purchasing a full bottle.

The typical long-aged Balvenie character with notes of honey, citrus, ginger, and sherry influence. Quite good. It has the typical light honey profile of Balvenie with a touch of spice. I'm not generally a huge fan of Balvenie, and I'd have to say this isn't worth the cost for me.
