Rating: 16/23 I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of Bacardi 8, so I eagerly accepted the opportunity to sample this. Nose: Vanilla, caramel, hints of fireworks. A touch of tangerine and some mild sweet spices. While not the most complex nose, it is a good one. Palate: Sweet, smooth, and mellow. There's a pleasant mustiness that gives it a sense of age, and I detect a slight funk reminiscent of Plantation Trinidad. Vanilla, subtly woody cinnamon, a hint of prickliness, and a good measure of tropical fruit (melon, banana, light pineapple, and just a whisper of orange). The expected firework flavor is minimal. It's slightly sweeter than I prefer but not excessively so, likely contributing to its perceived fullness despite the low proof. Speaking of proof, it unfortunately tastes somewhat diluted. Finish: Quite nice. Tropical fruits mingle with vanilla and light caramel. - Conclusion - Extremely easy to drink. Excellent as an introduction or for a relaxed evening. It would be fantastic bottled at 46-50% ABV. Nevertheless, I like it as is. While I'd prefer to rate it higher, it lacks a certain fullness of flavor. It possesses solid complexity and very good balance. I'm contemplating a 17, but I believe it falls more in the 15 to 16 range. At its core, this is a great, perhaps even fantastic, rum, but it has been diluted excessively. I do, however, perceive its complexity and depth. I'll assign it a 16.

The nose immediately presents notes of caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, pineapple, orange peel, and spicy elements of black and white pepper, along with a touch of anise. A truly lovely aroma. Upon swirling in the mouth, vanilla, caramel, and sugars are released onto the palate, accompanied by tropical fruit notes of pineapple and mango. The spices gently warm the throat. Aromas reaching the nasal passages dissipate quickly. Lingering caramel and vanilla notes remain on the tongue for several minutes, while all other sensations fade rapidly. Overall scores: Nose 3.5/5; Taste 2.75/5; Overall 3.25/5. Repurchase: Yes Type: Friday Night Pour

The Bacardi Gran Reserva Diez 10 has a peculiar golden hue, with tiny shimmering particles, much like glitter, visible in the bottle and glass when exposed to bright light. The alcohol trails resemble elaborate gingerbread carvings from high-end plantation styles. Its scent is of intense light brown sugar, hints of oak, vanilla, and nectar. The taste mirrors these elements, with a distinct alcohol presence towards the end of the sip. The texture feels medium to heavy, carrying a syrupy quality that is just starting to develop. The conclusion is of moderate to extended duration. This would satisfy those with a preference for sweetness.

Floral and oak notes, a significant improvement from the 8. Eucalyptus, pineapple, and tropical fruits. It doesn't change much as it airs out (I believe the older rums do). This is about the highest quality I would use for mixing, and not with citrus, perhaps in a rum Manhattan or similar.

Of the three rums I've sampled on my rum journey thus far, wow, this tasted excessively sweet like chemicals, but it wasn't unpleasant. It was simply my least favorite of the trio I tried (compared to Appleton Estate 12yr & Mt. Gay XO).

The nose presents strong notes of clove and licorice. Flavor floods the palate with heavy vanilla, banana, and brown sugar. The finish is long and has a peppermint-like quality. Fantastic spirit!
