Rating: 14/23 Nose: Rich and full. I detect a bitterness in the realm of burnt sugar, along with some wood notes. It feels rather oily, yet also sugary, similar to toffee that has started to scorch at the bottom due to insufficient stirring, while the top remains undercooked. I perceive faint hints of fruit, ginger, and vanilla, but they are subtle. The initial profile is dominant. Palate: Sweet and rich, initially presenting a mild caramel flavor before evolving. Faint peanut notes emerge, mingled with a light dusting of spices, subtle medium wood, and some tropical fruit. Notably, this is complemented by almost elegant candied oranges and lime peels. A pleasant mellow vanilla undertone is also present. There's an initial impression of being overly sweet and youthful, but the palate subsequently develops nicely. While it could be fuller, the body is substantial. The complexity is also considerable. Finish: That sweetness and richness endure pleasingly. I continue to detect some fruitiness combined with a very mellow woodiness, and surprisingly, more maturity than perceived for much of the palate. This is a satisfying finish. - Conclusion - I was not overly impressed initially, but it quickly grew on me. A certain brand can produce good rum. At only eight years old, I find this rivals Appleton Estate 12. The Appleton Estate seems more mature, but I often find it a bit too woody, whereas this is more generally rounded and easily sippable. In this aspect, it resembles Plantation 20th Anniversary, though the alcohol is more apparent here, and there is more bitterness (lime peel), with less perceived sugar. While stylistically different, it strikes me as being on par with Plantation Xaymaca. I believe they warrant the same rating, though if forced to choose, I would lean towards this one. This is a rum that is easy to sip and worth keeping on hand for guests who are not typically drinkers of spirits. Another offering from the same brand is less full-bodied, but its complexity and maturity surpass what I experience from this when tasted immediately after. It's a close call between the two, but this has a harsher flavor profile when following the other. I believe the other one comes out ahead, but they are stylistically distinct, and the difference is not significant. Given the other is a 15, this is likely a 14.

This is an excellent rum for beginners to sip. It demonstrates the possibilities within the world of rum while staying very approachable and palatable. More seasoned rum drinkers might find it a bit dull, but it's a fantastic option for the cost. On the nose, it smells like their white rum but with more depth, showing hints of dried fruits and oak barrels, though they are surprisingly subtle and require some effort to detect. There might even be a trace of tobacco aroma, though I admit I didn't notice it until I read the Expert Review. Like other Bacardi products, this is a very sweet rum, which I personally love as it's sweet without being overwhelming. Following the initial burst of sweetness and fruit, you can detect some vanilla, brown sugar, a hint of leather, and earthy notes in the finish. I will mention there's a slight "off" taste that others online have noted. It's not unpleasant; it's just difficult to describe and feels slightly out of place. While more complex sipping rums exist, few are this affordable or strike that perfect balance of sweetness. Recommended if you're looking to expand your rum experiences.

Taste - green apple, lemon pith, orange, sweet floral notes, honey, cola, light molasses, vanilla, date, cinnamon, allspice, sour oak, ginger, mild to moderate alcohol bite, finishing short with green apple, bitter citrus, and sour oak flavors. The aroma is light and fruity, with green apple and honey prominent. The palate isn't as good. The fruitiness becomes sour and bitter, with a very short and unremarkable finish. It's very plain and discordant, lacking distinct scents and tastes. Continuing my rum exploration with Bacardi 8 Year, one of a few rums I regret buying when I first started. It's not terrible, but it's not ideal for sipping or frequent cocktail use. It's entirely average and not something I intend to keep stocked for mixing once this bottle is gone. Unfortunately, this bottle will likely remain on the shelf until I have enough occasions to mix it with Coke.

Among affordable, easily found Bacardi bottles, this is the only one worth noting. With a good sale, you can enjoy its distinct but mild burn and aroma of banana and nuts for a reasonable price. It's well-rounded with traces of slightly burnt caramel. Bacardi usually doesn't pass my lips, but this is the sole exception (excluding Oakheart, which is in a different category). Honestly, I'm surprised this is a decent sipper, but it is. If you're looking for an inexpensive and disposable sipper, this might be a good choice.

Actually not bad. My expectations were low for this, but I was pleasantly surprised and would order it again. It's also a great price. A weak finish can be fixed with an ice cube. Straight. Deep copper color. The aroma is molasses, stone fruit, wood, vanilla, and some baking spices. The taste is sweet with burnt molasses, leather, tobacco, hogo funk, fruitcake, and smoke. The finish is lengthy, woody, funky, sweet, and bitter. An intriguing sipper, but I can envision it excelling in cocktails. It would certainly impart nice complexity to numerous rum drinks.
