Dominique Harding 4.5

Arran 21 The Explorers Series Volume 3 "Kildonan & Pladda Island" matured in Sherry Butts, Puncheons, & Ruby Port Pipes. Nose: Sharp sweet dried red berries, candied oranges, prunes, strawberry jam, dark applesauce (tastes the same with water). Taste: Candy sweet fresh strawberries, fresh red berries, candied ginger, a light tingle/heat, fresh red berry preserves (water adds fresh oranges). Finish: Lingering red berry jam, a hint of sweet nuts, lingering tingle/heat (water reduces the tingle, otherwise mostly the same). Score: 91/100. Final Thoughts: This dram immediately evoked "dessert." It's full of ripe, fresh, sugary strawberries, red berry jam/preserves, hints of dark raisin and prunes, all on a light base of sweet applesauce. While a bit sweet, it wasn't overwhelmingly so and was a fine example of a well-sherried single malt. It suggests summer, almost like something to pour over vanilla ice cream (though not quite refined enough), giving me vibes of strawberry ice cream topping made with fresh, sweet strawberries. Adding a bit of water enhances it by introducing fresh sweet oranges and slightly toning down the sweetness. Would I drink it if offered? Yes. Would I specifically order it? Yes. Would I buy a bottle? Yes. NOTE: All reviews are conducted without considering price.
