Ardbeg Supernova 2014

It evokes the feeling of sitting by the fire on a cold evening. It's intense with peat, causing my eyes to water if I took too large a sip, so it's not for the timid. I purchased a bottle based on its reputation, and it's quite good, though not worth the cost. Make no mistake, it's robust, smoky, warming, packed with spice, cinnamon, and distinctly oaky.

I had the chance to sample this one. A great pour. On the nose, there was some lime zest, a bit of saltiness, and citrus notes. The palate offered more saltiness and citrus flavors, along with plenty of peat, reminding me of a BBQ, but it wasn't too much. A great beverage.

Cloudy gold in color. It evokes images of a sunken pirate ship. Flavors of wet bacon and apple salad with a hint of gasoline. A touch of pungent cocoa. A long, smoky finish. This is exceptional.

On the nose it's like freshly cut grass, or new tennis balls in their can. The taste is hot and spicy, with smoked bacon, salt and a sweet aftertaste. Good balance, an excellent choice!

A nose of iodine, peat, and smoke leaps from the glass. Fantastic! It fills the mouth, coating it with all the hallmarks of Islay. My new mantra: 'The taste makes you beg for more'.

An older bottle, opened around 2014. It has mellowed, yet it's still the sweetest Ardbeg. I finished it the day before undergoing knee surgery.
