Apothecary Gin

Nose: Lemon and floral notes over juniper. Classic citrus-forward gin aromas with a hint of the exotic. Palate: Juniper and citrus with some pleasant native botanical notes, but nothing particularly surprising. Similar to the nose, it's a classic gin profile with just a touch of Australian character. The texture is pleasingly smooth. Finish: Medium/Short. Juniper, citrus. Apothecary gin is produced at Killara distillery in Richmond, Tasmania. It's a well-rounded classic gin utilizing ten botanicals, created by blending individually distilled components, each featuring one botanical. This method is also employed by Archie Rose distillery in Sydney and other Australian gin makers. This approach to crafting gin results in a highly consistent product that is easy for the distillery to produce as needed based on demand, but it means it cannot be classified as a London dry gin. Whether that distinction matters is debatable, but I find that my top 10 favorite gins are all single-distillation London-dry style spirits. Consider that as you will. It's a pleasant gin, but honestly, nothing about it stood out enough for me to consider it above average. I tasted it neat and would have liked to try it in a G&T and a martini to better assess its character. However, I'm not inclined to purchase a bottle, especially at a price point higher than most of my favorites. 'Average': 79/100: 2.75 stars
