Kermit Markham 3.5

This bourbon is distinctive due to its small-batch production using the original copper stills from the Indian Creek distillery. This family has been crafting whiskey on their agricultural complex since the early 1800s. It's a 95% corn bourbon bottled at 120 proof. Aroma: Initially, notes of butterscotch and rich caramel. After a few minutes, I detect a campfire reminiscent of summer. Not quite s'mores, but I get the smoky essence of a summer campfire. I almost sense toasted marshmallow. Taste: The toasted marshmallow flavor carries through. It's definitely sweet from the corn. Aftertaste: Short, with a hint of smoke. The pour exhibits decent legs.

Piper Simmons 3.5

Kicking off Bourbon Heritage Month with a dram of a local spirit. This bourbon is made with 95% local corn. On the nose: cinnamon and baking spice. I detect oak and a touch of sweetness. On the palate: oak, a Kentucky-style warmth, and some burnt caramel. The finish is shorter than I prefer and has notes of toasted marshmallow.
