Allt a Bhainne Single Malt

Decided to try something different. I'm quite behind on posting reviews but will catch up eventually... This deviates significantly from a typical Speyside, presenting an interesting aroma: peat upfront, met by vegetal notes like green beans, a hint of sauerkraut, tangy lemon/orange, moderate florals, and subtle sweetness, but no smoke. The palate has a thin to medium coating. Surprisingly much better than expected. Now, I detect some smoke and waxiness, caramel, butterscotch, and shortbread cookies. Unfortunately, no fruit, but there is vanilla and a touch of white pepper. Regarding the finish, it ends abruptly. Aside from a pleasant warm, waxy, buttery sensation, it's quite dry for my preference. At least nothing was unpleasant, bitter, or mineral. Nevertheless, it's a decent dram as a simple, peated daily drinker. This is at 40% ABV, but let's add a drop of water to see the effect... For the nose, it brings out the fruits and tones down the peat. The palate is similar, perhaps with a slight barbecue note, but the smoke diminishes. The finish reveals more white pepper but remains just as dry and brief. This is slightly above average, and at only $35 plus shipping, it's not something I'd repurchase, but I consider it a great one-night stand. Ah! The theme for this dram is "One Night Stands" by Bocephus, Hank Jr. It serves as an acceptable introduction to peat for some, and while not an Islay, it has a decent taste. A rating of 3.25 out of 5.

Took a chance on something new. Quite pleasant on the nose but slightly harsh on the palate. Very dry smokiness with the faintest hint of honey & toffee. Not unpleasant to drink, but one you'd offer to less discerning company 😜🥃

Smells of oak, a touch of peat, and malted barley. Tastes of ash and spice. The finish is spicy with orange peel.

Quite pleasant. It goes down smoothly with minimal burn, yet delivers a full flavor. I really enjoy it.

Slightly smoky, though could use more. Quite acidic (reminiscent of a wine gum).

A nice, long, spicy finish with hints of butterscotch.
