Abraham Bowman Sweet XVI is the seventeenth limited release. Bottle 588 was tasted and was exceptional from the aroma to the conclusion. This scarce wheated bourbon is among the finest bourbons I have ever experienced. It was distilled on 04/26/2002 and bottled on 04/26/2018. It aged for 16 years in charred white oak barrels and is bottled at 116 proof/58% ABV. Bourbon enthusiasts must try this. Absolutely magnificent, I eagerly anticipate their next release. Color: Deep Bronze The aroma was incredibly sweet, with notes of corn, red candy, butterscotch, oak, red fruit, and vanilla. The palate was spicier, providing a fantastic counterbalance to the sweetness with notes of charred oak, red fruits, and creamy vanilla. The finish was pleasantly long, offering significant warmth with lingering sweetness, vanilla, and oak notes.

The A. Smith Bowman Distillery's experimental line is represented by Abraham Bowman, with Sweet XVI Bourbon being the 17th release. This bourbon consists of whiskeys aged for 16 years in new, charred American oak barrels. The distillery experimented with various barrel entry proofs, including 125, 114, 105, and 90 proof for this particular bourbon. The bottle indicates the distillation date (April 16, 2002) and bottling date (April 26, 2018), along with batch and bottle numbers. While distribution is limited, with Virginia receiving the majority, it was scheduled to expand to additional states in summer 2018.

Without a doubt, one of the most unforgettable pours I have ever had...ever. To provide some context...It was a special occasion, so I sampled a $200 pour of a highly rare BTAC Sazerac 18-year-old as my initial drink of the evening. Then I ordered the Sweet XVI...it made me forget about the Sazerac... Magical liquid...too bad it's unobtainable.
This is excellent! It conceals its proof remarkably well. Features great rye character and spice. It's the finest I've encountered from Bowman, and it holds its own against BTAC expressions. Unfortunately, it was a very limited release, but a companion generously shared a taste. It is definitely worth seeking out a small pour.
Very similar to what others have noted, possibly my particular bottle, but I detected a strong finish of cherry cough syrup which was quite unpleasant. Update: Letting it breathe for about 20 minutes significantly improved the flavor.
This is among the finest bourbons I have ever experienced. It possesses a high alcohol volume yet remains remarkably smooth and intricate. An excellent whiskey for sipping.
