About this bottle
1897 Quinine Gin was launched on World Mosquito Day in 2015 to aid the UK charity Malaria No More, with a portion of proceeds supporting malaria prevention efforts. The gin is named after the year scientists confirmed mosquitoes transmit malaria. Quinine, derived from cinchona tree bark and used as an anti-malarial drug, is one of the thirteen botanicals used. Ten botanicals—juniper, coriander, angelica, nutmeg, cinnamon, cassia, orange, lemon, licorice, and orris—are distilled together with the base spirit, while cinchona bark, pink grapefruit, and white grapefruit are distilled separately. The final product is bottled at 45.8% ABV.
