They've been voted Best in Texas and Best in America for two years running. 1845 Preemption Texas Straight Bourbon uses a mash bill of Texas corn, rye, and malted barley. It's their classic bourbon, on par with any traditional brand. Dark amber color, thick legs, and a creamy viscosity. On the nose - Vanilla is forward, with notes of cream soda and birthday cake, followed by hints of nuts, pecan pie, and some cola. Various aromas are present. Palate - The high alcohol content doesn't make it overly hot. There's some warmth, but it's not excessive. It delivers more pepper and cinnamon as expected, while the vanilla and cream soda notes remain. Brown sugar is also present with the spices. With added water - It slightly mutes the spices on the palate, but the nose reveals cherry pie. It's very good and retains its flavors when diluted. Overall, a very good bourbon comparable to any major brand. Some call it the most Kentucky-like of Texas bourbons. I believe it brings Texas character to the finest traditional bourbons.
