1792 Extended Cask Finish - Kentucky Straight Bourbon - Finished in Zinfadel Casks

Wow…first review. I'll do my best to describe it accurately. The aroma is very inviting with rich nougat (like the center of a Three Musketeers bar), white grape, berry, milk chocolate, caramel, and quite mellow oak. Ethanol is exceptionally low. I'm liking it. Sadly, the palate loses some of the sweet notes from the aroma but still delivers fruit in the form of Concord grape and blackberry jam, along with vanilla, a hint of the milk chocolate promised in the aroma, oak, and allspice. The flavors have some good depth but it's not the most complex whiskey. It's a bit "bright" and "tight"; hopefully that makes sense. The medium-length finish brings cinnamon, black pepper, bitter oak, and unfortunately; unintegrated alcohol. There's a youthful sharpness/bite that the finish can't quite conceal. The mouthfeel is quite velvety, which is very pleasant. This is a decent attempt from 1792, and I found aspects to appreciate, but overall the young whiskey is noticeable. At $49.99, the price is quite reasonable, but I believe there are superior options in this price range, such as HH 7 year, Henry McKenna 10, or EHT small batch. An interesting experience, but ultimately not something I'd purchase again.
