A spirit that strongly resembles Dalmore. It brought to mind that popular internet image of two spidermen pointing at each other. An amazing drink. Delicious and nearly a 5.0 rating. The presentation is also beautiful. Did I mention this is Dutch? From the Netherlands? A genuinely intriguing single malt. Bottled at 46% ABV. I can't recall the color; I had consumed too many by the time I took notes. Nose: It's unmistakably Dalmore! Wedding cake. Sherry, raisins, figs. Palate: It is Dalmore! Wedding cake, Christmas cake, very oaky, candied fruit. Delicious. The finish is full of licorice, very pleasant. Overall, I award this spirit a 94 out of 100, and I truly believe it deserves more recognition, and I may not be judging it fairly here. Go find it.

About this bottle
Millstone is produced by the Zuidam distillery, a family-owned operation in the Netherlands with over fifty years of experience creating liquors and genevers. Zuidam utilizes copper pot-stills and a wide array of casks for its malt production. This 12-year-old expression spends eight years in first-fill American oak before being transferred to very old oloroso sherry casks, which are reconstructed from 500-600 liter barrels down to 250 liters for its finishing maturation. It is bottled at 46% ABV and is not sold in the US.

This is an intriguing distillery. There's a consistent note present in this dram, similar to its sibling I sampled weeks ago. The reviewer noted it as marmalade; perhaps it's a hint of cough syrup, which is noticeable in the aftertaste. It's the kind of characteristic that typically leads me to a lower score, and I can understand why others might feel the same. I'm not entirely convinced the balance with the alcohol is quite right either, but there's something I appreciate about it. Even then, I was leaning towards a 3.75, but now I'm reconsidering. I'm thinking perhaps a 3.25 due to the aftertaste. I believe I preferred its bolder, rye-based sibling.
Similar flavors to the regular Oloroso sherry Millstone but more rounded and less sharp. Sweet dried fruits, baking spices, dark chocolate, and charred oak.
