About this bottle

This limited edition bourbon, exclusive to Wyoming, commemorates the total solar eclipse traversing the state on August 21, 2017. Compared to their standard small batch bourbon, this small batch release is composed of 24 barrels instead of the usual 40 for a batch. Availability is limited to 1,000 cases. The release comes in a special black canister, and each bottle is marked to signify the Eclipse.

Do you recall the solar eclipse approximately two years ago? The one visible in a complete line from Oregon to South Carolina? That celestial event traversed a section of Wyoming, where this distillery is situated. Without thorough research, I'm uncertain if it was simply released on that day with an attractive label, or if there were specific barrel treatments, maturation processes, or other elements that made it a truly unique and special offering. My practical side suggests it's merely a marketing ploy. My romantic side hopes for something extraordinary. Regardless, it's quite good. It presents a classic bourbon profile with notes of oak and baking spices, all complemented by a sweetness. I have been a devoted admirer of Wyoming Whiskey for quite some time, with a particular fondness for all its products since visiting the distillery during a vacation in Wyoming years ago. My compliments to a friend for the pour! I had been anticipating this for a considerable period.

It takes a bit for the aroma of this spirit to fully reveal itself. Some scents are very apparent. You'll get vanilla, almond, and vibrant caramel. As you ponder it further, notes of citrus, key lime pie, and even the crust emerge. It possesses a smooth, rich quality. This offering is not overly sugary. Unlike some bourbons that bombard you with sweetness, this provides a more refined experience, which is pleasant. At 88 proof, the warmth makes a brief appearance and quickly fades. There's a touch of lingering warmth in the throat, but it's fleeting. The finish presents toasted grains and what seems to be chestnut. While I'm unfamiliar with Wyoming Whiskey and their other expressions in this range, I must admit this one is rather good and worth the effort to discover its nuances.

Adding a bit of water is recommended to reveal the full spectrum of taste. Prior to adding water, the aroma is packed with flavor, but the palate is lacking, and the finish is minimal. Following the addition of water, a subtle fruit and malt aroma emerges. The taste is consistent from start to finish, quite smooth, with notes of vanilla and a fruity aroma. The color is a deep caramel. In summary, I found it pleasing and would consume it again. As a native of Wyoming, I appreciate the distinctiveness of this limited bottling created to honor the eclipse.
