Woodford Reserve's Distillery Series Double Double Oaked (Winter 2017) undergoes extended barrel aging beyond the standard Double Oak expression. This expression follows the Double Oaked process, initially aging in new American oak, followed by a finish in a second new oak barrel that is heavily toasted and lightly charred. This particular release spends an extra year in the finishing barrel compared to the regular Double Oaked bottling.

I have the Fall 2016 version. It's full-bodied with vanilla and pleasant spice. The aroma is more pronounced than the taste, in a good way. Perhaps some nut flavors? That's about the extent of my tasting skills;-)
Remarkable oak aromas with a powerful caramel scent on the nose, very smooth with a maple syrup flavor, followed by the expected peppery finish that lingers. Definitely get it if you can, gentlemen.
Oak is prominent, as expected, yet it's quite smooth. Flavors of butter and butterscotch are present. While I typically dislike the standard double-oaked expression, this one was a rather enjoyable serving.
I really enjoy this bourbon and plan to add tasting notes when I sample it again. This particular bottle was produced in Autumn 2016.
Very floral and toasted oak. Doesn't have much sweetness. I prefer my roasted marshmallows with a different style.
This represents a small, but welcome improvement over the Double Oaked. It's excellent - truly quite outstanding.
