Wilderness Trail Settlers Select Small Batch Rye

Delicate nose of lemongrass, fresh cotton, poppyseed muffin, rainwater, light pine/spruce, and unmilled rye grains. Everything is light, clean, and airy. Zero ethanol. Thankfully, the palate brings a little more impact than the nose, but overall remains very "light" with lemon/lime zest, Ritz cracker, thyme, coriander, and perhaps enough of a generic wood note for balance, but not enough to clearly identify as oak. The prominent citrus and overall flavor profile make this an absolutely ideal summer sipper. A decently long finish elevates things yet another notch with cracked pepper, spearmint, mace, and clove. Mouthfeel is... you guessed it: light and airy. So light it's like drinking a rye cloud. I did enjoy the progression from nose to finish as things became increasingly potent. More delicate than I prefer my ryes by a large margin, but oddly satisfying as well. This is undoubtedly the whiskey I would offer to someone who has never tried a rye. At $58, the price is more than fair. A 3.75 rating that could rise to a 4.0 in the hot Arizona summer months.

Very good and smooth, though not as complex as wished for. Plenty of tart vanilla bean, notes of parsley, with cream soda on top. Much to appreciate. Only a bit to adore.

I was very pleased with this upon the first taste. A lot is happening for a 5-year-old spirit.
