Although the name might seem daunting to some, I found this label charming during a trip across the border to explore new bottles. I believe I simultaneously burst out laughing and felt incredibly confident when I proudly acquired this bottle of 8 Year Widow Jane (barrel 455, bottle 129) from 2014. Widow Jane's aroma initially presents notes of bergamot and vetiver along with citrus. It's almost like a sophisticated fragrance. Later, the scent transforms into a nostalgic blend of cola, baking spices, and a hint of orange. This is a well-balanced bourbon. An initial wave of spices and mild smoke are complemented by cherry and oak in a perfect presentation. As a good bourbon should, it provides a comforting warmth. The finish is moderately long with sweet ripe fruit balanced by herbal notes and minerality (perhaps from the water sourced from the Widow Jane Limestone Mine in NY). I can tell Widow Jane is serious about their craft. While it offers a satisfying sensation as you sip, the spirit improves with time in the glass. I would be keen to sample other offerings from them in the future. 8/10
