I recently checked out the Whyte & Mackay NAS blended scotch and was surprised it was the cheapest option. Now I'm reviewing the 13-year-old version, expecting it to be superior, but it's not. Bottled at 40%abv On the nose, I get pepper, vanilla, and a faint, very faint sherry/grape aroma. It's not very fragrant and quite plain. The palate has a strong grain whisky presence, which isn't particularly pleasant here. There's some caramel, oak, and herbal notes. The finish is average with hints of dry chocolate cake. Overall, this is a very straightforward dram. I'm scoring it a generous 76 out of 100.

Unsatisfying. For an aged whisky, it lacks depth and a lasting finish.
