Wheat Penny 1958 Bourbon Black Cherry & Toasted Wood Finish

Woody, cedar, and a light apple aroma. Tastes slightly sweet, with charred sugar and some tannic raisin, fading into a mild spice and heat. It's not a smooth pour. However, the cherry wood is noticeable. Perhaps that's the tannic raisin note I'm detecting. I'll summarize this as harsh, but it's a decent whiskey. It's priced affordably, so I'm certainly not disappointed. It would likely work very well in cocktails.

This is really smooth and sweet. I'm glad there's no cherry flavor. Maybe red apple. Very drinkable. I think this tastes a lot like Uncle Nearest rye but MUCH better. Where Nearest went for cherry, this went for sweetness. My local store suggested it. I'm happy I took their advice. It's nice to try something different.

Despite its reputation, I enjoy this. It's smooth with pleasant undertones. The black cherry flavor is present but not overpowering. The oak finish adds depth. As a wheat bourbon, it won't satisfy those seeking the spice of rye. I appreciate all types, and this offers a nice change of pace.

I'm not the most experienced taster, but I am a big fan of inexpensive Weller's, which is difficult to find in my area. I bought this for its wheat content, and it's definitely not Weller's. It's pretty smooth, and I don't dislike it. It's just not particularly exciting.

Tried the higher proof version but didn't want to add a new bourbon. The grain flavor is hard to get past. The added barley grain dominates the initial taste. Dark cherry notes appear at the end, but it's an average pour.

Appearance: dark amber red, reminiscent of Killian beer. Scent: woody, fruity, floral. Flavor: oily, wood, sweet, caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, with a warm aftertaste. Slightly warming sensation. Excellent value for the bottle.
