Western Reserve Small Batch Blended Bourbon

This is a decent attempt at bourbon from an Ohio producer. The minimum four years in the barrel really worked, offering a smooth, deliberate aroma of caramel and sugar with some spices, almost like a Woodford experience. However, the taste doesn't quite reach that same level. Still, it doesn't come across as young or unrefined, more like it needed an additional year or two to truly shine. (That said, I tried the eight-year version, and it didn't seem to help). The texture and flavor leave a tingle on the tongue, with mild spices again, good bourbon sugar notes, and hints of dry cocoa nibs and tobacco. But the sweet bourbon notes are the most prominent. Nothing wrong with that, as it follows through with intact brown sugar notes, finishing very easily. I'd almost bet this is sourced from that well-known bourbon supplier. Perhaps it's a throwback to the old 86 proof Wild Turkey days; if so, it's not a bad effort. I like the bottle design a lot and wouldn't mind spending a few bucks on one. The claim is a blend of four-year and fourteen-year-old spirits. (Continued, apologies for the length) if this one costs between $20 and $30, it should be a fair value for most enthusiasts. As with most sourced products, the real question is consistency in quality. The answer to that remains to be seen. Cheers!

A pleasant fruity aroma, with a nice rye tingle. Hints of caramel and apple on the tongue. The maturity of the 14-year component in the blend is smooth on the palate, while the boldness of the 4-year component provides a strong tingle on the tongue with a touch of corn in the finish. Overall, a very good bourbon for its price point.
