West Cork Glengarriff Series Bog Oak Charred Cask Single Malt

The aroma has a potpourri-like quality. It's not intensely powerful, but a distinct floral note dominates for me. Golden raisin? Underlying malt is present throughout, with very mild peat and perhaps a subtle funk on the nose as well. The aroma is complex, though I'm unsure if it's in a good way. The palate introduces tannin, which is necessary given this aroma, providing some structure. There's not much peat until the finish, where a faint and subtle smokiness lingers. It's an easy-drinking spirit, very accessible in terms of both price and flavor. It possesses a unique quality, undoubtedly derived from the wood. It's an entry point into more adventurous spirits, different but not overwhelmingly so.

It's decent, but not outstanding. It's generally lacking in taste. You get faint notes of cinnamon and spices when you smell it. It's very mild and smooth to sip straight, and I typically only drink Irish whiskey straight as a shot. The most obvious tastes are peat smoke, with undertones of char and oak spice.

This has excellent flavor, with a touch of peat, significant oakiness, and a fruity sweetness I can't quite identify, possibly citrus or berry-like. For $45, it's a fantastic value. The Irish peat is distinct, offering floral and herbal notes, reminiscent of Orkney peat found in Highland Park but still unique.

The aroma is bold and earthy, yet not overpowering, featuring notes of lemon, honeysuckle, a whisper of oak, and black pepper. The taste is quite delicate and earthy, with lemon, butterscotch, brown butter, and traces of oak and vanilla. The finish is moderate, presenting a receding smokiness alongside lemon, oak, and a luxurious creaminess.

Their characteristic profile is present with notes of cocoa powder, and a hint of green oak on the aroma. The chocolate flavor carries through, complemented by earthy oak and barrel char. It's less viscous than their usual Irish whiskey. While not exceedingly intricate, it possesses sufficient depth to captivate. The finish is brief.

A pleasant, light, and fruity aroma. On the palate, exquisite chocolate. Not a hint of chocolate, but a powerful burst of CHOCOLATE! A lovely finish as the chocolate gradually transforms into a beautiful nuance in a medium-length finish. It's definitively an Irish whiskey, but the bog oak certainly contributed something distinctive.
