West Cork 12 Year Sherry Cask Finish

This is awful. It's my first experience with West Cork, and it did not deliver on its claims: it states sherry finished, but lacks any sherry taste; it claims 43% ABV, but feels like 12% ABV. The color is very golden, not the reddish sherry hue at all. The nose is quite fruity but uninteresting. The first whiff is acetone, then it reveals yellow apples, pineapple, cheap lemon air freshener, apple juice, and absolutely no sherry. On the palate, it's weak. The first sensation was like an old storage box, similar to old cardboard with straws inside. A very faint apple note, and water. Far too watery. The finish is nonexistent. Ginger and water. A complete letdown. Overall, this is a very forgettable drink. The nose helps a little but not enough to even get a 2.5 score. 48 out of 100, avoid it.

The aroma is reminiscent of movie theater snacks, specifically chocolate-covered raisins and peanuts. If you enjoy those peach and vanilla gummy chews, you might detect a hint of them in the scent as well. The palate is pleasantly fruity with distinct white peach, crunchy cereal (like Grape Nuts?), and surprisingly minimal sherry influence. It's enjoyable, though not outstanding.

Sweet, floral notes initially, followed by an alcohol burn that smooths out but persists. Didn't detect much sherry influence, perhaps due to only a third of a year aging. It lacks substance and leaves the palate wanting more.

An intriguing pour. Aromas of chamomile tea and some roasted nuts. The color is light, and the sherry flavor is subtle; the roasted nuts in the aroma are the only indication of its sherry finish.

Pale yellow body with thin legs. Smells of wood, tobacco, and fruit. Tastes of wood, tobacco, and earth. Light body with a soft, warming sensation. 9/2/8/4/17 4.0
