Waterford Bannow Island Edition 1.1 is composed of 100% Overture barley, cultivated by Ed Harpur on the southernmost coast of Co. Wexford. This Irish single malt was distilled in 2016 and aged in a mix of first-use French and American oak. It is presented at 50% ABV without chill-filtration, and contains no added color or additives.

This tart seasonal beverage causes a tingling sensation on my lips. It begins with notes of hominy and has a thick mouthfeel, signaling an intense experience is coming. As it goes down, a multitude of spicy elements playfully assault your throat. Be prepared for frequent bathroom visits several hours after consumption.
NOSE: Smells like a new spirit, with earthy, vegetal notes, peaches, and pepper (indicating youth). MATH: Tastes very natural, with abundant pepper, herbs, and ginger, along with white fruits and flowers. It's powerful. FINISH: Notes of herbs, pine, and tree bark, with a peppery character that might be excessive. This isn't my preferred edition.
An aroma of fatty meat right away, with a subtle cedar note. Abundant black pepper and a faint sulfur scent. The flavor is very similar, with even more black pepper. Having sampled several of these whiskies, I have yet to find one I enjoy.
I fail to see the appeal. During a comprehensive tasting of that brand, I found them all to be just okay, at best. I hope future batches are more promising.
The aroma is floral cherry, earthy, and chocolatey; the mid-palate has some spice, finishing with a lingering creamy texture.
Smells like mothballs.
