Firstly, this is a delightful after-dinner drink and a welcome change after a month focused on whiskey. The nose is rich with baking spices: allspice, clove, and nutmeg. A slight ethanol presence adds a touch of sharpness to the aroma. The taste is also dominated by baking spices. It's viscous, bittersweet, and perfectly spiced. The finish is a lingering spice that gives way to a balanced bittersweetness. I'm eager to try this in cocktails.

About this bottle
Philadelphia Distilling introduced Vigo Amaro in 2019. Head distiller Aaron Selya spent four years developing the amaro, beginning to formulate its recipe before joining the distillery. The spirit undergoes a double maceration with a unique mix of botanicals, intended to fuse established practices with contemporary creativity. Vigo is a tribute to Francis Vigo, an Italian financier who aided the colonial effort in the Revolutionary War.
