The term Usquaebach translates to "water of life," which is the etymological source of the word "whisky." This formerly well-regarded blended Scotch, with origins tracing back to the 1760s and originally owned by Twelve Stone Flagons, is now under the ownership of Cobalt Brands. The blend consists of 85% single malts from the Highlands, with the oldest component being 20 years old, and the remaining 15% is grain whisky.

Aroma: Grainy, with a subtle sweetness, oak, raisins, heather, and sherry. Body: Light. Taste: Heather with faint wisps of smoke. Sweet, honeyed, and very smooth. Finish: Brief and sweet. Comment: The oak from the nose isn't detected on the palate. It's pleasant but not outstanding.
This is a well-made blend that avoids excessive peat, which I appreciate as I'm not fond of it being overpowering. The clay jug is also an attractive addition to a collection.
Intense caramel and maple syrup flavors, followed by a surprising finish of peat smoke.
