This is a fine introduction to the intensely ester-forward character of Beenleigh's pot-distilled rum. This particular bottling isn't overly complex or demanding, but you can still detect some of the funk characteristic of the distillery (which uses a method similar to those famously employed by Jamaican rum producers). Waves of vanilla extract emerge from the glass after it sits for a few minutes, but on closer examination, you can discern a chemical-like hogo on the nose. There's also a very sweet palate and a cognac-influenced finish from the cask maturation typical of the bottler. I'm glad I tried this bottle and am ready to explore other Beenleigh expressions. I won't be purchasing another bottle but will continue to look for any TCRL Australia releases I encounter.
