Trader Joe's Blanco Tequila

This Blanco isn't bad, but it's not particularly good either. Initially, it seems like the most ordinary Blanco available, with just an agave aroma. However, with time, a peculiar lemon scent emerges, reminiscent of artificial lemon candy or lemon-scented cleaning wipes. The label also hints at a subtle peppery note in the scent; perhaps 'faint trace' would be more accurate. Regrettably, the taste is even less impressive. While predominantly a generic agave flavor, two unusual characteristics significantly detract from it. The first is a strange, almost smoky quality that, after airing out, resembles vague, charred sawdust, which feels out of place in a Blanco. The most significant issue, though, is a bizarre, toothpaste-like peppermint flavor that dominates the entire palate. I've never encountered a Tequila that made me feel like I'd just brushed my teeth, yet this one manages it. There's virtually no finish, perhaps a mild black pepper at the very end, and then it's gone. Like a poor encounter, it departs abruptly after a disappointing experience. Despite this criticism, I'll note that it goes down smoothly and has minimal burn. Contrary to what my review might suggest, the negative aspects of this Tequila are actually quite subtle. It's more like cheap Tequila with diluted toothpaste than an overwhelming peppermint flavor that makes it undrinkable. Nevertheless, I can't honestly recommend this Tequila. I'll finish my bottle but won't look forward to it, and its minty undertones make it difficult to incorporate into most cocktails. A truly disappointing experience.
